Being A Mom: In A Instagram World
Every morning when I wake up I devote a minute or two (Let’s be honest like 30 mins) to peruse various different social media outlets and see what’s new in the world of my friends and people I follow.
And every morning I feel leaving like I am not a good enough mom,friend or wife! And all this boils down to various different factors in our own lives.
I will just throw it out there, Insecurity will eat anyone alive it doesn’t care who you are or how much money you make. Social media just happens to play a part in it, as moms we are expected to have it all together but the reality is that a lot of moms don’t and THAT’S OKAY
You’re allowed to feel insecure and unsure about what’s going on in your life but know that the mom who you might think has it all together is actually insecure herself or feels the same way.
Some people fight their own insecurity with wanting people to perceive them as secure. True story.
“Ugh why can’t I do that? She’s basically perfect!”Have you ever caught yourself saying that? Because if I was being completely honest with everyone I have said it more than a few times.
Want to hear a fun fact? NOBODY is perfect but everyone wants to try to achieve the look of perfection in their everyday life when that’s far from the reality.
Here is a good example for you;
Mom (A) runs a successful business, she posts on all her social media handles about her success and how her children only eat organic non-gmo food and hand sewn hemp clothing made by a super instagramable monk named John. (I mean why not Ha! Roll with me) In her spare time she has a YouTube channel with thousands of subscribers who hang onto her every word.
Mom (B) Also runs a business, maybe not nearly as successful but she works hard and long hours, her children don’t eat organic food but instead might eat GMO filled mash potatoes that come from a box, why? Because Mom (B) might have to work 90 hours a week and is exhausted. In her spare time she likes to shop for her children at her local mall or watch Youtubers while in bed.
Mom (B) when looking through social media sees Mom (A) have a perfect life and she would so wish that she could provide her children with the luxuries that Mom (A) posts on social media.
Thus causing insecurity that she isn’t doing enough but if we really broke down reality.
The “Perfect” Mom (A) might not actually have such a perfect life. The reality is that her business is doing great only during certain seasons, she doesn’t actually have a “essential job” and when you see her posting about her children’s food what you don’t see is the HOURS of commitment and money it took to have those moments for pictures! The hand sewn clothes? She gets for free because John The hemp growing monk actually sponsors her YouTube videos and that’s how she makes extra money.
So whenever you see posts like that on Instagram remember NOBODY is perfect but perception is everything.
